The theme of the conference shall focus on

  • Classical Matrix Theory
  • Matrices and Graphs
  • Combinatorial Matrix Theory
  • Matrix and Graph Methods in Statistics, and
  • Covariance Analysis and Applications in Nuclear Data.

Linear Algebra and Graph Theory are important branches of Mathematics having applications in each and every branch of Applied Sciences. The topic ‘Matrix Methods in Statistics’ is a branch of Linear Algebra and Matrix Theory containing a variety of challenging problems in Linear Statistical Models and Statistical Inference having applications in various branches of Applied Statistics such as Natural Sciences, Medicine,Economics, Electrical Engineering, Markov Chains, Digital Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Neural Network, to name a few. Advances in Combinatorial Matrix theory are motivated by a wide range of subjects such as Networks, Chemistry, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, and Information Technology. The areas of Classical Matrix Theory and Combinatorial Matrix Theory interact with each other, which is evident from the interplay between Graphs and Matrices. Generalized Inverses of Matrices such as the Incidence Matrix and Laplacian Matrix are mathematically interesting and have great practical significance. Covariance Matrices play an important role in the study of uncertainty associated with data related to measurements, which is an important part of applied Mathematics and Statistics.

This conference is in sequel to the conferences ‘CMTGIM 2012’ and `ICLAA 2014’ held in Manipal during January 2012 and December 2014, respectively. The present conference shall provide a platform for leading Mathematicians and Statisticians, working around the globe in the theme area to discuss several research issues and to introduce new innovations. The main goal of the conference is to bring experts, young researchers, and students together to present recent developments in this dynamic and important field. The conference also aims to stimulate research and support the interaction between the scientists by creating an environment for the participants to exchange ideas and to initiate collaborations and professional partnerships. This conference also dedicates a few sessions to ‘Applications of Covariance Analysis in Nuclear Data’, and plans a preconference meeting on ‘Applications of Linear Model in the Evaluation of Nuclear Data’, which is an important topic in the Indian context. The event is also expected to provide a platform for the interactions between Mathematicians, Statisticians and Data Scientists.

Prof. Bapat has been on the editorial boards of Linear and Multilinear Algebra, Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra, Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics and Bulletin of Kerala Mathematical Association. He has been elected Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore and Indian National Science Academy, Delhi. Prof. Bapat served as President of the Indian Mathematical Society during its centennial year 2007-2008. For the past several years he has been actively involved with the Mathematics Olympiad Program in India and served as the National Coordinator for the Program. Achievements : S. Ganesan has been published more than 175 research articles and 4 books. He was privileged to have been involved in several first-time mile stone developments in Indian reactor physics and nuclear data physics activities. He was involved as founder member of the Nuclear Data Physics Centre of India (NDPCI) in 2009 for which he has consistently made ustained efforts from the early seventies. He has been credited with creation of the phenomenally successful Indian EXFOR workshops, India joining the NRDC (IAEA) network, proposal and start of projects on covariances in nuclear data science in India, creation of Indian criticality benchmarks, in India joining the CERN n_TOF experiments (Phase-2) and first time initiating interactions between nuclear reactor design physicists and the faculty in universities with creation of over a dozen nuclear data projects in various Universities across India in nuclear data science for advanced reactor applications. He has been involved in India joining the prestigious international reactor criticality benchmarking of the US DOE in 2005 and the Indian KAMINI (2005), PURNIMA-II (2008) and PURNIMA-I (2012) reactor criticality benchmarks for nuclear data and code validation studies were successfully published in the ICSBEP handbook by the US-DOE. During 1977-78, S. Ganesan was a visiting scientist in Nuclear Research Centre, Karlsruhe, Germany. During 1990-94, in the IAEA, he was successfully involved in creating the first-time international high quality fusion evaluated nuclear data library, FENDL-1, tailored for ITER and fusion applications. He was also involved in creation of WIMS Library Update Project for thermal reactors and implementation of several projects in IAEA member States.

Achievements : Stephen Haslett is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a Chartered Statistician (UK), and formerly President of the New Zealand Statistical Association and Managing Editor of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Statistics. In addition to his more theoretical interests in various aspects of linear and mixed linear models, linear algebra and sparse contingency tables, he has undertaken extensive research in small area estimation and survey design projects for the UN, and has worked in or for central government statistical agencies in more than 20 countries. He has been a statistical consultant for over 30 years during which time he has published over 100 academic papers and written more than 120 research and consulting reports. Over the last ten years he has been principal statistician in a range of large scale statistical modelling projects for small area estimation of poverty and of undernutrition in children for the United Nations in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, and Timor-Leste. He has also been involved extensively in research in Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu, as well as in Finland, New Zealand, UK and USA.

He is a Past President of the New Zealand Statistical Association (NZSA) and a Fellow of the NZ Mathematical Society. He served as Chair of the Royal Society of NZ Committee on Mathematical and Information Sciences (1997 – 2002). For his services to the Mathematical Sciences he was awarded a Bronze NZ Science & Technology Medal in 2003. In 2006, he was the recipient of the Campbell Award, the highest award given by the NZSA “to recognize his contributions to statistical research and education, and his services to the profession of statistics".

Achievements : He started his professional carrier at the Institute Lau Langevin where he was scientific responsible for gamma-ray spectrometers installed at the high flux reactors. In 1989 he joined the EC-JRC at Ispra. At the JRC Ispra he was scientific responsible for the development of measurement techniques for the Non Destructive Assay (NDA) of nuclear material based on active and passive neutron assay, gamma spectroscopy and calorimetry. Since 2001 he is working at the JRC in Geel where he is the scientific responsible and project leader for measurements at the time-of-flight facility GELINA and at the tandem generator MONNET. He is specialised in capture and total cross section measurements and the production of covariance data in the resonance region. One of the latest achievements is the development of a non-destructive analysis technique to determine the elemental and isotopic composition of materials and objects based on neutron resonance analysis.
